FAMILY HOLIDAY

Experience the country and the people. Endless landscapes – stillness –light – clear air – sun – pure nourishment for the soul.
Okomitundu is the ideal holiday destination for the family. All the family will find entertainment and fun or peace and relaxation, just as they desire.
Children are free to run around and play. The size of the farm means that they will not disturb other guests. The playground provides safe, brightly designed area for the little ones.
While the children have fun in the swimming pool, there are comfortable sunbeds for parents to relax in the shade nearby.

There is lots for children to see and explore even on the farm itself: unfamiliar plants, lots of insects, lizards, butterflies, moths and birds. In the large enclosures there are hares, squirrels and parrots which children may help feed.

The sandy “riviere” [dry river beds which only carry water for brief periods after heavy rainfall] on the farm provide a great play area for children and they can climb on the granite knolls. There is always the chance of seeing wild game or the less spectacular yet fascinating animals and plants mentioned above.

Families can hike, go on tours of the farm or go swimming together. Annegret will be pleased to show guests how the farm bread is baked or how the jam and marmalade are made. Guests are welcome to join in and have a go at kneading the dough themselves. All the bread, rolls and cakes are made on the farm, as is the juice made from cactus figs and lemons. Horst is also happy to share his experience in barbecuing and preparing smoked game. If the cows provide enough milk we also make our own curd.

Prieska Uriras, a Damara lady, weaves beautiful carpets made of Karakul wool at Okomitundu and will be glad to demonstrate the craft to anyone who shows interest. Visitors can even try weaving themselves.

For parents who can take their holiday in May and whose children are interested, the family holiday can be ideally combined with a riding course for children.
