Adventures for hunters ...

... exciting holidays and relaxation for the whole family.
Hunting can have a bitter aftertaste for some – especially animal welfare campaigners. But the sport is entirely unjustified in Namibia! Here hunting tourism has a highly positive effect on the native fauna.
Since all wild animals were declared the property of the land-owning farmer by the Nature Conservation Ordinance Nr. 4 of 1974, virtually all species have proliferated significantly. Thanks to trophy hunting, wild game is among Namibia’s most valuable resources. Farmers, professional hunters and hunt guides thus all have a vested interest in ensuring that none of the hunted species are exposed to risk.

The hunting season in Namibia lasts from February 1st to November 30th.

Namibia is rich in wild game species – not all of those listed here may be hunted.

Resident game / herbivores: kudu, oryx, mountain zebra, springbok, steenbok, common duiker, damara dik-dik, klipspringer.

Carnivores: leopard, cheetah, black-backed jackal, lynx, honey-badger, polecat, skunk

Nocturnal animals: mole cricket, aardvark, porcupine, bat-eared fox, African wild cat, genet, pangolin, springhare, hare, meerkat, gopher, chacma baboon, cape hyrax, and various species of mongoose.

The eland and hartebeest antelopes have been naturalised: they were still widespread in Namibia in the middle of the 19th century but were forced back into nature reserves as human settlement advanced. There are also impala, blesbok, black wildebeest and waterbuck from South Africa so as to extend the range of trophies.

If you are interested in other types of antelope or leopard, we provide a unique selection of animals within the Okawi enclosure which covers 22 farms and a total of 320,000 hectares.

The hunt guides at Okomitundu are the professional hunters Horst Fechter, Harald Förster and Paul Kamure. Of the 18,000 hectares of  Okomitundu farm, 10,000 are securely fenced while the game has complete freedom in the remaining 8,000 hectares and neighbouring farms. We stalk and hunt from hides.

Guns

Generally, hunters bring their own familiar guns. We recommend a robust repeating rifle with sufficient energy reserves – the bottom limit is 7x64 calibre. Experience has shown that 40 cartridges are sufficient.
If required we will be pleased to supply guns for hire and ammunition. Daily rates are based on calibre. The import of automatic firearms and small arms is prohibited by law. A firing range which conforms to legal requirements is available for test firing. We offer still hunting by preference, and also hunting from hides. Flaying and raw preparation on the farm are included in the price. We will be glad to arrange for trophies to be shipped to the hunter’s home country on request.
