History of Okomitundu

The farm Okomitundu was founded in 1903 by the Hälbich family. 40 years previously, Eduard Hälbich, the head of the family, had moved to Namibia with the “Rhine Mission”. He worked for many years as a travelling merchant in the area of Otjimbingwe.
In 1972 the farm was bought by Senator Carl Arthur Frormann from Düsseldorf. He kept sheep and cattle in Okomitundu for 20 years before his son Dr. Detlef Frormann took over the farm. The latter realised the farm’s tourist potential and installed guest and hunting facilities.
This turned out to be an excellent decision: Okomitundu has been awarded the “HAN Certificate of Excellence” of the Namibian Association of Gastronomy several times, as well as winning the “International Award for the Tourist, Hotel and Catering Industry” from Spain.
